Lincoln - Loyd Dell Hayes, 80, passed away Friday, January 17, 2014 at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, KS.
Loyd was born on March 19, 1933 in Smith County, KS, the son of Alvy Dell and Nellie Melvina (Atwood) Hayes.
He was a Navy veteran and a VFW life member, Smith Center.
Loyd was a farmer and dairyman for 35 years while he lived in Smith County. He enjoyed traveling to Arizona with his second wife of 19 years, Pearl, every winter and loved to square dance, paint, golf, bowl and play cards. He especially loved to support his children in their sporting events while at Downs High School. He was very proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Loyd is survived by his wife Pearl Ryan Hayes of Lincoln, KS; son Randell E. (Dolores) Hayes of Salina, KS; three daughters, Cynthia L. (Jerome) Fassler of Lafayette, CO, Janice M. (David) Wright of Harrisonville, MO, Lee Ann (Bryan) Shearer of Almena, KS; step-daughter Charlene (Marlin) Jeffers of Casa Grande, AZ; step-son in law Terry Harris of Salina, KS; two sisters, Loyce (Albert) Rotman of Cozad, NE, Loretta (Dale) Flynn of Lindsborg, KS; fifteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Verian and two step daughters, Kay Harris and Rex Ann Mohling.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, Smith Center, KS. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Wednesday, 8:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Crystal Plains Cemetery, Smith County, KS. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be sent to the Crystal Plains Cemetery Fund in care of the funeral chapel.
