Smith Center - LaVern E. Myers, 85, passed away Monday, April 30, 2018 at the Smith County Memorial Hospital, Smith Center, KS.
He was born August 7, 1932 in Haddam, KS, the son of Harold and Florence (Mahoney) Myers. On June 21, 1953 he married Emily June Trybom in Clifton, KS. To this union they were blessed with three children, Debbie, Annie and Lonnie. LaVern was a United States Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. He worked for Boogaarts for over 32 years driving a truck delivering grocery's until he retired in 1993. He was always proud of the fact that he retired with a perfect driving record, no wrecks or tickets.
LaVern was a master of all trades and there wasn't anything he couldn't fix or build. He built his own house on the farm practically by himself while still working a full time job. LaVern had several hobbies he enjoyed throughout his life such as fishing, watching western movies every day, reading and collecting Louis L'Amour books and coins. Later, his main hobby was his miniature ponies that he raised in Gaylord and even had a cart that he would hook them up to, and drive them around the farm yard. Once LaVern retired he still kept busy and looked forward to driving the harvest truck each and every year. LaVern's passion was taking care of his family and working hard, he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, he will be greatly missed.
LaVern was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jimmy Myers and two sisters, Fern Bernard and Mary Lou O'Blennis.
He is survived by his wife June Myers of Jewell; daughters, Debbie (Richard) Conrad of Gaylord, Annie (Larry) Lambert of Smith Center; a son, Lonnie (Sheila) Myers of Jewell; a brother, Harold Myers of Washington; a sister, Geneva Hiltgen of Mankato; six grandchildren, Eric (Amy) Conrad of Osborne, Joy (Shane) Traughber of Johnson City, Laurie (Eric) Zanger of Central City, NE, Mark (Elizabeth) Lambert of Bellevue, NE, Savannah Myers of Jewell, Gatlin Myers of Jewell and seven great-grandchildren, Aiden, Ethan and Elliot Conrad, Emma, Will, Kate and Jack Zanger.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 4, 2018 at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, Smith Center, with Pastors Brian Loreg and Keith Sears presiding. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. with family present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and until service time Friday at the funeral chapel. Burial will take place in the Fairview Cemetery, Smith Center, KS. Memorials may be given to the Smith County Memorial Hospital and sent in care of the funeral chapel.
