JoAnn Maxine Hunnacutt, 82, passed away on Friday, January 30, 2026, at Smith County Memorial Hospital, Smith Center, KS.
JoAnn was born on August 12, 1943, in Newberg, Oregon, the daughter of Harry Cecil and Sadie Irene (Carter) Rhoades. On September 27, 1963, she married Jack T. Hunnacutt in Smith Center, KS, to this union they were blessed with three children, Tracy, Terri and Tyler.
JoAnn worked in food service for USD 237 for over 27 years, retiring in 2008. She loved her job and work teammates and being at the school with the kids and teachers. She was blessed with the opportunity to feed the Redmen Football Team (Thank you Coach Barta) before each game. She and Jack loved going to their kids’ sports, cheer events and activities. At the Redmen (Hubbard) stadium, she and Jack would be the first fans arriving; it was like they had reserved seats for each game on the top row on the fifty-yard line. JoAnn enjoyed traveling the U.S. with her family, going places like Elvis’s home, Disneyland, Maui Hawaii, Las Vegas and the West Coast creating lifetime memories with her loved ones. JoAnn loved her grandkids and grand dogs and would attend their sporting events and activities as well. She would also enjoy grand dog baby sitting and hanging out with them. In her retirement years she loved to hang out drinking coffee with the “coffee crew” at Jiffy Burger.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Don and Carl Rhoades, a sister Alice Sutton and her husband Jack.
JoAnn is survived by her children, Tracy (Wendy) Hunnacutt of Phillipsburg, Terri (Scott) Basom of Salina, Tyler (Susan) Hunnacutt of Salina; a sister Florence Kistler of Albany, Ore; three grandchildren, Brittany (Robert) Kerns of Auburn, ME, Jonathan Hunnacutt of Phillipsburg, Emma Hunnacutt of Kansas City, MO, and one great-grandson, Gianni Kerns of Auburn, ME.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 7, 2026, at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, 113 S. Madison St., Smith Center KS, with Pastor Dennis Lambert officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Smith Center, KS. Memorials may be given to the Arthritis Foundation and can be sent in care of the funeral chapel.
