Smith Center - Ted Werner, 81, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Smith County Memorial Hospital - Long Term Care, Smith Center, KS.
He was born June 24, 1935 in Smith County, KS, the son of Theodore V. and Alma (Kuhlmann) Werner.
Ted was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Kensington, Kansas, and was Baptized and Confirmed as a young person in the Church. The Werners and Kuhlmanns were a large family and one of their favorite past times was fishing in the Solomon River, and family reunions were always very special occasions. Ted worked on Road Construction with his Brother Darold, and with his family in their Tastee Treat in Smith Center. Ted also enjoyed working at the Eatin' Inn on east Hwy 36 during the late 80's. Many will remember how Ted picked up soda cans all over town wherever he could find them. His hobby was to collect model cars and all shapes and sizes of marbles. In recent years Ted lived at the Hospital's Long Term Care Facility in Smith Center. He was very helpful to others when it was possible. Ted was a quiet person and had a good heart in relating to others.
He is survived by his sister Janet Anthony and husband Jim of Holly Lake Ranch, TX and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Darold Werner.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 13, 2017 at St. John Lutheran Church, Kensington, with Pastor Lorna Paulus officiating. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2017 at All Faiths Funeral Chapel, Smith Center and 11:00 a.m. until service time Monday at the church. Burial will be in the St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery, Kensington. Memorials may be given to St. John Lutheran Church, Kensington, KS and can be sent in care of the funeral chapel.
